The August 2000 issue of Air Sports International, I admit, has been quite difficult to place before the readers. The season for air sports has started and reports and results of FAI sanctioned events have started pouring in, but not all meet our journalistic requirements of publishing, as received. We have had to refer quite a few stories back to the authors for additional inputs and more readable detailed accounts of the events. I am certain we will have a whole lot of events covered in the coming issues of Air Sports International. My appeal to all our contributors is to give us a brief account of what happened during the 3 or 4 or 5 day event and who eventually won. We do not need to much of an artistic imagination to write such stones nor do we want them to be just bare skeletons. A reasonable narrative will do and if you add the pictures it forms a perfect story for our regular issues. The Sep issue already looks very promising with over half a dozen major events just concluded. We have written to each one of our correspondents to submit their stories with just that much flesh and matter to make them interesting without them being just a list of daily results. In the August issue we have the second part of Dr George Papadatos' account - 'Sun N' Fun 2000'. A very well illustrated report with lots of pictures. Other stories are complete contrasts. While David Bremner takes a 'Peep into the Future', David P Forsyth talks of 'The 'Fouga Magister'. We also have convergence in air sports a la Information Technology - and David A Gustafson finds that 'Powered Parachutes are Taking Off'. Not many years ago we just used the parachute to jump out of a plane and on opening their sole purpose was to retard our rate of descent to a manageable limit. One never imagined then that it would take us up too ! Finally in this issue we have a story on The Gimli Glider by Wade H Nelson. A loving record of how a particular model was produced and how it flew and why it was called so. Happy Reading !
