His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain, himself a keen sporting pilot, has graciously agreed to be President of Honour of the Organising Committee of the 2nd World Air Games in Andulucia (June 2001).

At an audience in his Zarzuela Residence in Madrid on 22 July 1998, the King received FAI President Eilif Ness, together with top officials of the Spanish air sport movement and of the Spanish Superior Sports Council. He chatted animatedly with officials about the technicalities of air sport competitions and asked to be kept fully informed of developments during the WAG planning process.

Following the audience, FAI officials met for three days with their Spanish counterparts to agree details of the organisation and media coverage of the Games.

It is expected that the final detailed agreement between the parties will be signed at the FAI General Conference in Toulouse, France on 1/2 October 1998.
