Followers of I.G.C. affairs will be aware that there has been wide spread concern expressed about the world¹s continuing membership decline. At the March annual meeting in Lausanne this year, proposals to arrest the downturn and encourage more to take up the sport were tabled and amongst some of the proposals was the creation of a ³give-away² promotional video. The idea being that Clubs would include the cost of a video in all passenger ride charges, with the passenger receiving a promotional video that would encourage him/her to return and join the club. I am happy to report that with financial assistance from the major German sailplane manufacturers, (Alexander Schleicher - Rolladen-Schneider, Schempp Hirth, and Stemme) the video has been completed with distribution to start around November 20. We set out to produce a video that Is not only inexpensive, but one that presents a visual picture of the sport as a whole, with the emphasis on learning to soar. Filmed in the South Island of New Zealand by the same team that produced OChampions of the Wave¹ and OWindborn,¹ the video is titled ³Soaring, Your Sport for the New Millennium.² The cassette cover, printed in four colours has room to endorse club contacts and phone numbers. The 15 minute video is as spectacular as the price for bulk purchase by overseas organisations. The following is the bulk price structure (in any video format).
All prices plus freight. For clubs ordering in bulk there is a minimum order of 100 copies. The video will be available in any language. To have copies made in say Spanish, we must have an initial order of 1000 copies at $US2.90. Subsequent orders are then available at the standard rates. A one-off sample of the English version by airmail will cost $US10.00. Any club wishing to have a sample copy, mail a US$10 note to Finally, complimentary copies will be mailed to National Association Presidents, Gliding Publication Editors, and IGC delegates. They can expect these during the first week in December. GO TO IT! This is a worth while project that deserves support. Our
aim is to distribute 100,000 copies over the next two years. Help us
reach that target! |

Dear Sir, I am glad to inform you that, since a few days, the new CIACA web pages are officially online. I suggest that you visit them . See Amongst other things, they contain a form which gives people the opportunity to register their homebuilt aircraft, both those already built and flying, as well as those under construction. A new interesting data base is therefore being built up, destined to
grow day by day and to become the richest set of data about homebuilt
aircraft in the world. Its main peculiarity is that each aircraft homebuilder
is personally required to fill the relevant form in with data and picture,
thus assuring that our data base will be properly fed and kept up to
date. Please inform all the relevant people in your country and give
this message the utmost diffusion. The success of this initiative depends
on our capability to make it popular. |
