| Dear Sir, On the 5th of January 2001 the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) homologated the world record set by British pilot Mark Hayman and passenger Nicky Watts on the 14th August 2000 at Annecy in France The new world record is for speed round a 25km FAI Triangle O-3 Multiplace (Tandem paraglider) which now appears on the FAI website at www.fai.org/hang_gliding/records/data_o.asp?id=9 A pleasant surprise for Mark was that the speed was higher than expected as he used the wrong formula when he originally registered the record, claiming 22.39km/h. The FAI, using the correct formula, have calculated the speed as 24.31km/h, beating the old world record by over 20%. Mark would like to thank Bill Morris of BHPA records, Irwyn Jehu (official
observer) and all the team at the FAI for all their hard work and time
devoted to ensuring the success of the record claim. Thanks also to
Nicky (long suffering passenger and girlfriend) and to APCO paragliders
who supplied such a speedy glider for our use. |
