Loehle Aircraft Announced Thrie New Video Catalog Titled "Aviation Classics"
Loehle Aircraft Corporation is proud to announce that their new video catalog titled "Aviation Classics" is now available.

Loehle Aircraft Corporation is also known as the "Master of Illusion" because they design and produce fine replica kits of legendary aircraft. The company has focused it's attention on some of the most famous aircraft in history...the legendary P-51 Mustang, P-40 Flying Tiger, Spad XIII, SE5a, and Fokker D-VII. They also produce a nostalgic, high wing aircraft known as the Sport Parasol, which is a design influenced by famous designers like Bernie Pietenpol and Ed Health.

Loehle's new video catalog features all six of their famous designs. The video will easily convince pilots that they can actually build and fly their own prestigious aircraft...allowing them to stand out in the crowd at any airfield! The staff at the Loehle factory feels that they are truly helping aviators take their dreams and turn them into reality. The video is one that will stir all pilots' emotions. "It is hard to view breath-taking footage featuring P-51 Mustangs, P-40s, historic biplanes, and nostalgic type aircraft without becoming emotional," says company President Mike Loehle.

The video covers numerous topics including a behind the scenes look at the Loehle factory and illustrates they are a "family oriented" company. Additional topics include the high level of prefabricated parts that are included in their kits, along with the required space that builders will need to assemble their "dream machine", and trailering vs. hanger rental.

Exciting flight footage demonstrates the short field capabilities, climb performance, cruising, and overall safe flight characteristics of each of Loehle's replicas. Loehle's designs are targeted for novice, low time pilots. Company President, Mike Loehle, says "one of the secrets of the success of our planes is that an average pilot can safely become the most envied "Top Gun" at their own airport." He also adds that "image is very important to most pilots and our classic replicas provide the ultimate planes for this purpose!"

The professional, 30 minutes video is available for only $ 25.00 US. Foreign orders add $ 10.00. A detailed information packet is also available for $ 10.00.

For information on ordering, call LOEHLE AIRCRAFT CORPORATION at 931/857-3419, Fax 931/857-3908; or write the company at "The Aviation Valley", 380 Shippmants Creek Road # ASI, Wartrace, TN 37183-3302 USA.

International Parachute Expedition to the North Pole 1998
New World Record for Nathalie Chudiak
By : Ms Nathalie J Chudiak

There I was, for the fifth time, at 10,000 ft on the ramp of the lljushin 76, a huge four-engine Russian cargoplane, ready to jump the North Pole. The unearthly sight down there, every time endlessly vast and white, yet ever time different, made once more an unforgettable impression on my retina.

The wonderful weather (sunshine and low winds) made the jumps 'a piece of cake' and our stay on the Pole a very exiting experience. A Russian priest made a staticline jump, erected a wooden cross on the Pole and held a special service, flights with a paraplane were made, a million pictures with flags and each other in a temperature of only (!) minus 18 degrees were taken, pink champagne was consumed and finally everyone and everything was put into the two Mi8 helicopters which took us to ice-airport. There we drank more champagne, took more pictures and transferred the group of the Antonov 74, which took us to Srednej Island. There we had to wait for another two hours before the Antonov 26 arrived to take us back to Chatanga in Siberia, from where we started only about ten hours earlier with the IL76 to the Pole.

Before the flight to the North Pole two days of perfect jumping weather were spent with jumps in Chatanga from the MI8. Tandem jumps with local residents were highly successful. CNN gave the highlights the day after we returned in Moscow.

The group consisted of 78 persons, 45 skydivers and 33 participants in the supporting crew (officials, press etc).

Seven nationalities were counted in the group: Malaysia, Canada, England, Netherlands, France, Portugal and Russia. The Malaysian group also dropped a car, which withstood the drop perfectly as well as the 'ride' back to Moscow under the helicopter and in the various planes. The jump took place April 21st.

This years' expedition was very well organised: Evgeni Bakalov and Oleg Prodan, both experienced skydivers and organisers, did an excellent job. They had official support from the Russian Olympic Committee and the Russian Federation of Sportparachuting. They also had support of a number of Russian sponsors. Everything was taken care of: transportation, lodging, food, but also Russian hi-tech expedition clothing, meetings, a official press conference in City Hall after our return and a celebration lunch with the issuing of beautifully framed diploma's.

After six expeditions and five jumps - as I am the first woman to achieve this record I am in the process of getting this world record in the Guinness Book of Records - I could write a book about North Pole Skydiving Expeditions. Some of them were good, some very good, some of them with less success, due to bad weather and sometimes poor organisation. That is why I was a little reluctant to organise another group for '98.

The organisation of this year's expedition however, gave me every confidence for the future. August/September Bakalov/Prodan will have definite plans for 1999 and in September promotion for next year will start. Co-ordination for Europe will be done by yours truly. A warm welcome to skydivers, tandempairs and supporting crew!

The International Parachute Expedition to the North Pole 1999 will be another 'chilling' adventure, but skydiver, tandem passenger or 'just' tourist: you can take this exciting plunge with anticipation and confidence.

Read your magazine and surf internet for more information about it in the months to come.

Jeppesen Sets Stage for Expansion of Electronic Chart Services
Jeppesen, the Denver-based international aviation services company, announced that it has signed a strategic alliance agreement with Marinvent Corporation, the Canadian company that developed JeppView. The alliance kicks off a formal long-term research and development partnership between the two companies. Jeppesen and Marinvent will focus on the development of next generation cockpit and ground-based electronic chart systems.

"We've made a substantial commitment to provide charts and other flight information for electronic cockpit displays. Part of that commitment is our alliance with Marinvent." Said Greg Bowlin, corporate vice president of airlines operations services at Jeppesen. "This partnership enhances our ability to achieve our goals for providing electronic charts and a full suite of aviation information services to our customers."

Jeppesen first introduced the JeppView Electronic Airway Manual Service in October 1996. Since then, the JeppView coverage area has expanded to include the US, Canada/Alaska, Latin America, and United Kingdom. Additional chart coverage areas will be phased in on a regular basis. The agreement with Marinvent also grants Jeppesen a long-term license of Marinvent's high quality TCL graphics technology for use in Jeppesen electronic chart display and printing applications.

"The two companies complement each other extremely well," said Ed Schuster, senior manager of cockpit applications at Jeppesen. "Jeppesen possesses the worldwide flight information database, charting expertise, and industry leadership position, while Marinvent supplies the technical expertise and programming skills necessary to support Jeppesen's plans for offering avionics quality electronic charts and other information services. Marinvent provides superior skills in the areas of system engineering, human factors analysis and software design and development."

The JeppView software and chart database is contained on a single CD-ROM that features high resolution, vector-based graphics and provides an easy-to-use interface for fast, convenient access to charts and related flight information. Included on the JeppView CD-ROM are the Jeppesen Terminal Airway Manual Charts (Approach, SID, STAR, Airport), chart legend/glossary, airport data, chart NOTAMs and other related information. Like the printed Jeppesen Airway Manual, JeppView CDs are updated and issued to subscribers every two weeks.
