In the sixth issue of our netzine we have the usual mixed fare of articles and features. We have two articles covering events in aeromodelling and ballooning. Besides this we have another article challenging the Wright brothers claim of being the very first to do powered flying in the world. This is the second of such articles received by us. This certainly makes for an exciting situation where history may have to be re-written!
In this issue we also carry a first person account of rare guts shown during a helicopter emergency, a feat difficult to emulate. We also have an interesting story on paragliding - "Flying with the Birds" by Ullastina Ostberg, who recounts her experiences. This story makes sad reading in the knowledge that the exited author has since died. The tragedy of her death cannot leave us unmoved. We have since had the meeting of the FAI Council in Paris, where we had the opportunity of meeting with a large number of delegates representing various national aero clubs (NACs). We note with concern that a fairly large number of members had never seen Air Sports International on the net. We have advised them to set up e-mail/Internet accounts and thus be able to see the exciting world of the Internet besides speeding up their communications and also reduce their communications cost. We would like to see each of the NACs being able to read the netzine on-screen. There was also a demand put up by delegates for printed copies of the netzines. While we would like to have a printed version of our netzine, financial constraints prevent us from doing so. What is, however, possible is to have local print outs made on a colour printer of reasonable resolution and have these printouts distributed. To make the printing easy we are working on a procedure, which we will pass on to all concerned very soon, which will enable us to get good quality print-outs for PR purposes. Two major decisions made at the FAI Council meeting are noteworthy. Firstly, the FAI has decided to re-locate from Paris to Lausanne in Switzerland. Secondly, the 2nd World Air Games have been allotted to Spain. The President of FAI in the President's Page has covered both these points in detail. Till we meet again, happy reading
