Gustave Weisskopf
From : Pierluigi Duranti
Dear friends,

I have recently learned a very interesting story about the german Gustave Weisskopf, a guy who, in 1901, two years before the Wright brothers, is proven to have flown with a motorized aircraft. Unfortunately the pictures which demonstrate that evet went destroyed and the withnesses available at the time have died.

Nevertheless there are good proofs that he actually did the job. A group of citizens of his german home-place (Leutershausen) have been working thirty years to collect documents for demonstrating his world record. I visited their newly established museum and I guarantee it is something amazing. In order to prove that he was a "serios" inventor and aircraft designer, they have now built a full scale replica of his aircraft, which has successfully flown a few weeks ago.

This event is of great interest for the restoration and aircraft homebuilders environment, but also for anybody interested in aviation history.

I believe that this story actually deserves to be known by our public and the efforts of those supporters deserve more popularity. I have recently written a long article for our italian aeronautical magazine. It is written in italian and it would take me a lot of time to translate it in (bad) english.

If you believe that it is worth, I can send you this article ,but you should take care of having it properly translated. Otherwise I could do it, but it would take long...

Please let me know your intention about.

Best regards and many compliment for the quality of your excellent job in this new shape of the magazine.
