Mail Log, cost tracking and warnings software for aircraft owners
From : Richard Bériault

Dear Sir,

As an amateur pilot and part-time software developper, friends have have asked me to develop a "grand-mother friendly" software program that would combine the following features:

  1. a log program;
  2. a complete cost tracking accounting package that will track flight, fixed and operating expenses with extensive reporting capabilities for any date period or by pilot (If aircraft is owned in a partnership);
  3. would automatically convert liters, imperial quarts, imperial gallons, US quarts and US gallons to the user's default unit of measurement for Fuel and Oil;
  4. warnings and reminders on inspection, expiries, overhaul warnings, etc.;
  5. split costs between pilots in case the aircraft is owned in partnership;
  6. report performance statistics on the aircraft such as fuel and oil consumption, cost per hour, etc;

The program is just about finished and my friends suggested that I should try to market this unique program to private aircraft owners over the Internet.

(We have not found any similar product on the market yet!) I am writing this e-mail to ask your advice. If you were in my shoes, how would you market such a product and make knowned to the aviation community this unique program with very limited funds?

Your help and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.
Richard Bériault

Mail GPS Systems
From : Michael Zupanc

Hello everybody.

As you are probably aware, sailplanes have been using GPS systems to verify their competition flights for some time now. The system that they use works very well, but unfortunately the equipment required to use this system is somewhat expensive compared to what hang glider and paraglider pilots are used to paying for flight instruments.

To counter this problem, a new system has been developed in Australia which uses the track log function of existing GPS units, thereby allowing the ease of using GPS data instead of photographs for competition flight verification.

This system has now been used in more than a dozen hang gliding and paragliding competitions and has been quite successful and secure. I have now established a web site that explains the system and gives instructions for using the software. Keep in mind that this system is still evolving and enhancements are currently underway, but a simple, secure and successful system is with us now. Check it out at http://www.ozemail.com.au/~zupy/gps/gpstrack.htm

Cheers
Michael Zupanc
