Take-off Methods

Foot Launch from hill site at Loma de Cauchiles. At 2700 m ASL oriented to two valleys ranging from SW to NE. The access is by asphalt road and takes twenty minutes from HQ. There are two additional take-off areas: Mount Ahi de Cara at

2000m ASL, at ten minutes drive from HQ., and another one in Las Rosas, at 1300 m ASL, at one hour drive very near Granada.

Further information will be given at team leader briefings.

Task Period

Times of window open for take off and times for closing of the window, start gate or start point open and closing, turn points and last landing time, will be displayed on the task board in writing.

Team Scoring.

A team shall be determined from the total scores of the top 3 pilots calculated on each scoring day. The score of teams with less pilot shall be the scores of the participating pilots.

Flying and Safety Regulations

Each competitor is required to conform to the laws of the Spanish Government and local Institutions, as well as conform to rules of the air in Spain.

Collision Avoidance

The direction of turning at launch and at start gate or start point area will be announced at the briefing and will be published on the daily task board. Even days right, odd days left. Infringement of this safety rule will be penalized.

First infringement of a pilot: Penalty of a 5% of the maximum score of the day.

Second infringement of a pilot: Penalty of a 10% of the maximum score of the day.

The turn direction has to be upheld within 2 km around take off.

Circuit turning and landing patterns given at briefing shall be complied with, international collision avoidance regulations obeyed and a proper look out kept at all times. A glider joining another in a thermal shall circle in the same direction as that established by the first regardless of height separation.

The Meet director will be able to exclude a pilot from the competition for security reasons if he considers that the pilot compromises the safety of the majority in flight.

Ballast

A pilot must avoid dropping ballast at any time if it is likely to affect other competing gliders, persons or properties.

Flight Verification

Photographic Evidence

Photographic evidence will no longer remain as the flight verification system. Flight verification will be made only by GPS.

GPS Verification

The GPS verification software, that will be used on the competition will be the program Checkin developed by Christian Quest. The use of GPS will be compulsory for this competition. GPS’s can be used as main and as backup verification.

For GPS verification, CIVL section 7 recommendations will be used.

This is the list of acceptable GPS’s devices for this competition:

Garmin models: 12, 12xl, 38, 40, 45xl, 90, 90xl, II, II+, III, III+.

Aircotec: Top Navigator

MLR: SP24xc (free flight edition)

Not acceptable GPS’s devices are:

Garmin 45, eTrex, eMap, Summits. All other manufacturers.

This list can be changed to include more models.

Anti-Doping

Drug testing will be done along the meet. Every pilot must be aware of all the prohibited substances of the Anti-Doping Olympic Movement code. This code can be downloaded from the following web site:

Environment

Since take-off area and surroundings are located in Sierra Nevada National Park, all people involved with the competition must be extremely respectful with the environment.

Pilots who are caught or seen dropping waste, or any other activity that can be considered as a damage to the environment will be penalized with 5% of the maximum score of the day the first time, 10% of the maximum score the second time.

Media Support

Cameras or dummies supplied by the organizer will be handed out at least 1 hour before the briefing. This equipment should be returned when GPS data is downloaded.
