Participation:

Class 1 - 6 + 2 per country

Class 2 - 4 + 2 per country

Other Requirements:

To be valid a world or continental championship must have not less than 8 participants in a Class representing not less than 4 countries with entry fees paid and available to fly on the first day.

The organizer may arrange pilots in two groups, if necessary (only in class 1). After four valid contest days (only if the high number of pilots makes it necessary), these two groups will be normalised, remaining one group with 100 pilots that would fly the finals, and the rest would fly a B competition.

Championship Classes

The championship will be held in Class 1 and Class 2, according to the latest CIVL

Section 7 definition. As so the events that will be hosted are:

World Hang Gliding Championship in Class I

World Hang Gliding Championship in Class II Male & Female

World Air Games Championship Class I Male & Female

World Air Games Championship Class II Male & Female

Pilot Qualifications

A competing pilot shall be of a sufficient standard to meet the demands of an international competition and hold an FAI Sporting licence issued by his own NAC.

In addition Section 7 rule 5.11 applies.

Rest Days

The policy on rest days shall be declared before the first competition day.

Aircraft and Associated Equipment

All gliders must be available during the registration period for an acceptance check in the configuration in which they will be flown. The organizers have the right to inspect for Class conformity and airworthiness and, if necessary, ground any aircraft for safety reasons at any time during the event.

Briefing

Briefing for team leaders will be held on each flying day. Task, weather, airspace information and any special requirements will be in writing and/or speech. Flight safety requirements given at Briefing carry the status of regulations. Attendance at Briefing is compulsory. The Meet Director may call to any other Special Briefing, if necessary.

Take-Off Methods

Foot Launch from hill site at any of the official launches at the Sierra de Lijar.

  • 1100m ASL ranging from S to E (UTM 0286513 30S 4086652)
  • 950m ASL ranging from SW to NW (UTM 0284737 30S 4085946)

Further information will be given at team leader briefings.

Radio Transceivers

Radio transceivers are permitted. Only frequencies allocated by the organizers and the law of Spain may be used. We request each team to hand in at HQ the team frequency (only for security reasons).

There will also be a radio repeater with a safety frequency to be used in case of accident, and a different frequency to report landing position to HQ. These frequencies will be published in annex given at registry.

The use of GPS’s is compulsory for safety and for scoring. The organizer will supply, if necessary, GPS’s to those pilots who need them. (Check Flight Verification section)

Please request on the entry form if any pilot will need a GPS

Retake-Off

A competitor will be allowed on take off to attempt the task within the stated launch period. A failed take off or safety problem immediately after take off which results in a landing will not count as a launch.

Second take off is allowed only for technical and safety reason in the official landing area or top landing area. Pilot must report to Marshall before second launch.

Task Period

Times of window open for take off and times for closing of the window, start gate or start point open and closing, turn points and last landing time, will be displayed on the task board in writing.

The closing time (last landing time) is set by the organizers on every competition day at Briefing. Calculation of the minimum length of time that the launch window must be open for the round to be considered valid:

tmin=[ (Number of pilots)*45 seconds] / [Number of launch points] for the first task and

tmin=[ (Number of pilots)*30 seconds] / [Number of launch points] for all following tasks

Task Suspension or Cancellation

A competing pilot landing to help an injured pilot should not, at the Director’s discretion, be placed at a disadvantage by this action.

Scoring

Scoring will be done due to the GAP formula system with the RACE 2000 program.

Team Scoring. (Section7, 5.9) Team scoring shall be determined as follows:

Team scores for World Championship in Class I (team size: 6) top 3 pilots/nation for each scoring day.

Team scores for World Championship in Class II (team size: 4+2) top 3 pilots/nation for each scoring day.

Team scores for WAG Championship in Class I (team size: 6 + 2) top 4 pilots/nation for each scoring day.

Team scores for WAG Championship in Class II (team size: 4 + 2) top 3 pilots/nation for each scoring day.

The score of teams with fewer pilots shall be the scores of the participating pilots in that Class.

Flying and Safety Regulations

Each competitor is required to conform to the laws of the Spanish Government and local Institutions, as well as conform tm rules of the air in Spain.

Note: Violation of the VOR of Martin (path to Malaga Airport) or any other CTR will result in zero score for the day.

Collision Avoidance

The direction of turning at launch and at start gate or start point area will be announced at the briefing and will be published on the daily task board. Even days right, odd days left. Infringement of this safety rule will be punished.

First infringement of a pilot: Penalty of a 5% of the maximum score of the day.

Second infringement of a pilot: Penalty of a 10% of the maximum score of the day.

The turn direction has to be upheld within 2 km around take off.

Circuit turning and landing patterns given at briefing shall be complied with, international collision avoidance regulations obeyed and a proper look out kept at all times. A glider joining another in a thermal shall circle in the same direction as that established by the first, regardless of height separation.

Ballast

A competing glider may carry jettisonable ballast only in the form of fine sand or water. A pilot must avoid dropping ballast at any time if it is likely to affect other competing gliders, persons or properties.

Flight Verification - Photographic Evidence

Photographic evidence will no longer remain as the flight verification system. Flight verification will be made only by GPS.

Use of GPS

The use of GPS will be compulsory for this competition. GPS’s can be used as main and as backup verification. Pilots without GPS may receive one from the organizer, but this must be requested, when he/she fills up the entry form.

For GPS verification all handheld Garmin GPS receivers that record a time-stamp with each track log point can be used. Aircotec Top Navigators can also be used. Every pilot must assure, before start of competition, that his/hers GPS is compatible with the software. Check Annex 2 GPS verification (will be soon on the web) about the necessary requirements and recommendations on the use and settings of these GPSs.

A list with all the compatible GPSs will be published on the GPS Annex.

Anti Doping

Drug testing will be done along the meet. Every pilot must be aware of all the prohibited substances of the Anti-Doping Olympic Movement code. This code can be downloaded from the following web site:

http://www.nodoping.org/pos_anti_dop_code_c.htm
