The ninth annual Bear Cup contest held by Porin Ilmailukerho started on Saturday, 21st of February in quite bad conditions. When the first competitors had arrived, the weather was still acceptable but the situation became really bad just before the contest was about to be opened. The wind became strong and gusty and it started raining. The opening was scheduled forward in hope of better weather, but since there was no progress, the competition was cancelled and was supposed to be held the next day. Some of the competitors were forced to return home because of their travel arrangements. The remaining competitors returned to the accommodation at Tammen Tila, a couple of miles from the competition site, to have a nice warming sauna bath.
The people returned to the competition site on Sunday morning, noticing that the weather seemed a bit better than on Saturday. The arrangers decided to open the competition. The weather became worse during the third round. The wind became strong again and rain came poring down on the competitors. The arrangers decided to close the competition. The people gathered on the beach for the price awards and just then, to the surprise of everyone, the sun started shining. The wind was still so bad that the competition did not continue.
