The 34th Open Winter Championship of Russia in F2D was held on backwaters of the town pond in Ekaterinburg. The event is traditionally held by the end of February and is known as the meeting point of 60 teams and somehow more.
As a rule all of Russian leading sportsmen take part in it. 57 teams came to compete in Ekaterinburg this year.
Among many participants were : 1996 World champion Viatcheslav Belyaev, winners of 1997 European championship Andrei Belyaev, Alexander Gusev,Sergei Belyaev, winners of 1997 World Cup Dmitri Bazulin, Stanislav Talantsev, Nikolai Netcheukhin, winner of 1997 Russian Cup, 1988 World champion Boris Faizov, winners and prize-winners of 1997 Russian championship.
Sportsmen from Germany, Poland, Sweden, Finland, al former Soviet republics took part in that event in the past.
As World Cup event the contest is held for the second time. Inclusion into FAI Sporting Calendar gave a great deal of inspiration to sportsmen.
As the final result of the contest the winners were nominated : first place - team Boris Faizov (pilot) / Dmitri Petrenko (mechanic) followed by - team Nikolai Netcheukhin (pilot) / Alexander Borzikin (mechanic) and team Alexander Vdovenko (pilot) / Alexander Kuraxa (mechanic)
Among junior teams the first place winner was : Alexander Gusev (pilot) / Alexander Turkevitch (mechanic).
Ekaterinburg Aeroclub is willing to welcome all who would like to take part in 1999 event.
