This issue of Air Sports International corrects the imbalance created in past issues, by having three articles on aeromodelling. We thank our contributors for having responded so promptly to our request to get stories of three important events in the world air sports calendar - Maxmen International, Russian World Cup in F2D and the Bear Cup.
Inside we carry a heart rendering story of some of our brave parachutists who attempted to jump over the South Pole in the Antarctica. It, tragically, makes excellent journalism, narrating a painful story with a subtle touch of sympathy and humaneness. We also have in this issue a story written by Mary Blume on whether Alberto Santos-Dumont was the first man to fly in a heavier-than-air machine. We have had a couple of other claims too, all seeking to dislodge the Wright brothers from their pedestal. We will carry another story in the June issue where some one else lays claim to the same honour. A fresh study of all available evidence may have to be done to re-establish once and for all as to who flew in a heavier-than-air machine first. We have received some messages from our readers regarding problems they are facing in being able to read or download the netzine using their existing configuration of browsers and/or other software. While designing our site - which we do every month - we try and use techniques and innovations that are currently universal. Although we would like to move with the times we are holding back so that we can carry along all our readers. My personal advice to our readers is to get the latest in browsers and get your real audio and real video software installed. There is so much happening on the net, not just in Air Sports International, that you will miss a lot of fun if you are not fully equipped. In this issue we have attached an audio clip to the cover of the netzine. The music will play as long as the netzine is open. This is just an experiment. We have also tried to experiment with another innovation. We have grouped all the pictures published in Air Sports International in one Dynamic Picture Library. This will be accessible from all pages of the netzine from May issue onwards. This is also an experiment to seek your reactions. You are requested to give us a feed back on these innovations. Similarly, we hope to place video clips as well in forthcoming issues. These will be clips from those that have been recorded live on digital equipment at the site of various events. With these and other innovations we would like to keep ourselves 'way ahead of the pack'. Readers are advised to keep ahead of the pack at their end too. Happy reading and happy listening!
