Editorial November 2000

Atul Dev - Editor It may almost appear to be a perpetual lament by a frustrated Editor but, inspite of series of Air Sports events
having taken place the world over, we still do not get their stories/articles. So much for our PR effort!

Through this editorial I wish to once again remind our event organisers that an event held successfully will not be considered successful till the world gets to know the success story. They need to use all their resources at their command to get the widest possible coverage of the event in all the media - print media, electronic media and the Internet. They must have the PR plan ready even as they start the planning for the event. They must plan to target the local, national and international media. Local media may cover their event well but that is not enough for a world class event. If the international media cannot get to you - you get to them. Prepare articles, press releases and press notes and have them circulated. No editor is so obtuse as to not use a story of as interesting an event as air sports.

We at Air Sports International are at the receiving end and can judge the PR effort of an event by the promptness with which we receive our articles and pictures. Media savvy personnel keep us informed of the event from days before it starts till many days after. Even insignificant events appear very big when properly publicised

We have in this issue a good example of how an event can be successfully publicised. I refer to the article by Sabu Lchiyoshi on 'Ballooning over the Naga Parbat'. He has set available details to virtually the entire media the world over. The reach - a coverage that will be the envy of any major world or continental championship.

I can only appeal to all event organisers to make proper media plan as part of their overall PR programme to publicise a particular event and also do not forget to include Air Sports International in the list of media that needs to be kept informed.

I can assure all event organisers that their events will get due coverage. Those that did send in their material eventually saw it in 'print'.

Happy reading!
