We have just returned to our stations after the Annual General Conference of FAI held in Toulouse, France. The Conference was extremely useful for us to exchange ideas on the magazine - Air Sports International - as it appears on the net. Two issues dominated the discussions. Firstly, the need to get editorial inputs from all the world events and thus make the netzine a proper record of events of FAI. Secondly, the need to get advertising support to continue to publish such a magazine and eventually to make it a successful business venture of the FAI.

Regarding the editorial inputs that we need. I wish to once again stress to our friends, responsible for organising various events, the importance of sending in reports and pictures. We are aware of the problems of language. That will not affect your writing in. In case we need to we shall correct your text otherwise we have been very satisfied with what has been sent in so far. I once again appeal to all to please send in your reports and pictures soon after the event is over. It will be carried and will publicise your efforts and the air sport of your interest.

About the need for getting advertisements. This is a universally know requirement. Till a publication does not carry advertisements it cannot be self-supporting. The same applies to any netzine. We are no different. We need advertising support to keep our project going. If you like what we are doing, do support us. Do make an effort to get advertisements. All you have to do is to contact potential clients and then give us details, we shall follow up and keep you informed.

We carry herewith a report on the Women's World Cup in Hang Gliding held in Hungary in August. A first person account by Claus Lykke Jepsen, who was there and has taken a lot of trouble in getting the report and the pictures to us on time. We thank the author for the trouble taken.

We have an interesting feature about making and flying paper aeroplanes. Well not just making and flying but also breaking world records ! It was Julia Murphy who put us on to Ken Blackburn's site and thus we have "My Paper Airplane Story" by him. It make very interesting reading.

1998 is the year when Aero Club of France celebrates the Centenary of man's flight in a heavier-than-air machine. To mark the year a large number of events were held in France including the hosting of the Annual General Conference of FAI. To do its bit for this great occasion Air France devoted an entire issue of their magazine to commemorate the event. We have reproduced, in this issue of Air Sports International, two articles of great interest to our community - a profile of Gérard Feldzer, President of the Aero Club of France, who is an unusual man; much more than most pilots who, in my opinion, are all unusual people. Do read about him and judge for yourself the qualities that make him the leader of the current sport aviation team in his country. The second feature we carry is a list of landmarks that mark the first one hundred years of aviation. This may again be a heavy file to download but once again it is worth it. It is fully illustrated and well worth the effort.

Happy reading !
