Sensitivity To Negative G
From : jcw@avmed.af.mil.nz

Dear Sir

I run the Royal New Zealand Airforce Aviation Medicine Unit in Auckland NZ. One of my hobbies in NZ is gliding and a recent accident which killed a student and instructor was thought to be due to subject problem. The glider was observed to do a series of stalls and then dived, exceeded Vne and suffered a fatal structural failure. The theory is that the student aggressively checked forward in the stall recovery.

I have obtained a copy of an article by Piggott on same but I am having trouble finding much in the scientific literature. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

A world competition in your home town
From : Rob Moore

Like Ake, I had a burning ambition to have a world gliding competition at my home club since attending the World Gliding Competitions at South Cerney GB in 1965.

Its come true and in 2001 the Centenary of Australian Federation the GFA in conjunction with the Adelaide Soaring Club and the South AustralianGliding Association are hosting the inaugural World Club Class Contest.

The contest will be held in January 2001 and the work has now begun to make this no only a great competition for the pilots and crews but an interesting Australian adventure for any body who cares to travel down under for a look at the proceedings.

August 1998 magazine
From : Gilbert Griffith

Dear flying people,

Thank you for the brilliant magazine which I downloaded and read offline for the first time (today).

The article on Aerobatics to music was a classic.

Something I have yearned to do with my hang glider, but have always been too lazy to attach a high enough powered sound system to the glider. A walkman and some selected music on tape only provides me with a private musical display.

One piece of music among many that I have found suitable is Karl Jenkins' "Palladio", especially the second movement. Diamond Music label with the London Philharmonic Strings.(SONY CDSK62276)

World Record
From : Michael S. Kearns

Greetings,

My name is Michael Kearns, I was the survivor of the South Pole skydive in December 1997. You have an article on the trip in your May internet issue.

I think I have a new world record for completing a parachute jump on all of the continents. I completed the last continent, Africa, as a military jump with the SADF Para Bats, on 20 June 1998... and I did a skydive on the 21st.

I have documentation of all of my jumps -- I wanted to know if the FAI has anyone who claims to have done this? There was only one other person who had jumped Antarctica, a Norweagian in 1992.

Please let me know how to proceed... and what documentation would be necessary to persue this.

Respectfully,
Michael S. Kearns

GY-20 Minicab
From : Paul J. Metzger

Sir,

Forgive me but I hope you speak English. I do not speak French. However, I am trying to get some information on a French design called the "GY20 MiniCab". Any Information that you could provide me would be appreciated.

Thank You.
Paul Metzger

Apart from the fact that Mr. REBILLON (France) set 4 records with this aircraft in 1952, we have no information on this design in our office.

When checking the Jane's directory (1978-79 edition), we find the following :
"the original 2 seater GY-20 Minicab was designed in France by Yves Gardan and flew for the first time in February 1949. A small number of production aircraft were built by Constructions Aeronautiques du Bearn (see Jane's 1956-57). Mr. Ord-Hume subsequently acquired original drawings for both the Minicab and its precursor the Babyclub, and redesigned and redrafted the plans to make the aircraft suitable for amateur construction in the Uk, USA and Australia. The resulting variant was first introduced in 1963".

I am copying this email to the subscribers to our amateur-built aircraft information mailing list, in case one of them has more information for you.

Sincerely,
Thierry Montigneaux

In November 1998 I will depart Switzerland with my Long-Ez for a flight to and all around South America to commemorate the achievments of those pilots which 70 years ago opened up the South Atlantic for modern air travel.

Details: http://fly.to/sat98

I ask you kindly to consider placing a link to the Airsports, and/or the FAI Homepage. Of course I would do the same for you.
